The Last 30 Days of the Decade

I quit Facebook last month.
It was a good decision.
It no longer brought me joy.
However, Cary brought to my attention that there was a “decade challenge” going on where people were posting side by side pictures of themselves 10 years ago and now. Eventually the challenge made its way to Instagram and it was fun seeing what a difference 10 years makes.
I reactivated my original FB account to look through old pictures and found a few from the first Thanksgiving without my mom and one of the last Thanksgivings I spent with my family from Ohio.
I scrolled through the #DecadeChallenge to see the people participating* and the theme of most of the posts was weight loss. Which is fine. That is definitely something to be proud of.
Obviously, I look quite different now but the fat loss is not what I’m most proud of.
I have experienced growth in a way I never thought possible because I never knew it was something I wanted or needed. My body, my mind, my spirit, everything is different.
My life is bigger.
Here’s the thing though…
If you looked at a picture of yourself from 10 years ago and you’re not at all where you thought you would be, that’s ok.
If you’re not admiring yourself now for the “Glowup” you’ve created, that’s ok.
Because the last 10 years don’t matter anymore. What matters is tomorrow.
Your past decisions are irrelevant. It’s your next decision that counts.
What do you want the next 10 years to look like?
I have already started considering and working on this. I believe that one of the biggest mistakes I have made in the past is waiting for Monday, or the first of the month, or January 1 to get started on my goals. Ultimately, I find myself unprepared when those dates arrive.
If you’re planning to join a gym after the first of the year, CONGRATULATIONS! That’s huge!
Have you thought about what you’re going to do for your first workout?
After the new year, you’re finally going to wake up earlier? Awesome!
But, have you thought about why and what you plan to do with your extra time?
I have started setting aside specific times to work on this blog and other side projects but I’m also making a plan of what I’m actually going to do during those sessions so that I don’t sit in front of my computer and wonder what people are doing on Instagram.
I’m using these last 30 days of the decade to plan and build habits that will help me hit the ground running in 2020.
Are you?
*SIDE NOTE* My favorite posts from this hastag were the posts of trans individuals who are finally living as their true selves. Definitely worth a look if you have a chance.
